Ceramics at Home: The Defunct Pottery

After graduating the University of Wisconsin: Whitewater with a computer related BBA you would think the first thing I would want to do is find a high paying job from which to earn my keep. Seeing as that is probably the normal reaction I don't feel too bad shooting for another goal. You see, the thing that does not show up on my degree and resumé is that I have been involved in ceramics in one way, shape, or form since my sophomore year of high school.

Flash forward to present and the beautiful condo I live in which also happens to have a laundry room without a washing machine and dryer. Well, you can put two and two together. So, here begins the story of the remodeler and the potter's adventure in doing what just about every textbook said can't be done.

The next few pages will contain the worklog and thoughts as we go along turning this spare room into a full time studio. Check back from time to time to see whats been happening.

2008 Update

Unfortunately, like anything small and delicate, this whole process was bound to break down. Ian and I went our separate ways and the studio was forfeited in the process. While the implementation failed, the concept still remains possible. I have one recommendation to anyone interested in trying this. MAKE SURE that anyone who shares the space also shares your vision of its use. Also, cats or other semi-domesticated pets with an affinity to brush up against bone dry wear on a high shelf should not be allowed into the room, no matter how calming a presence some people believe them to be. That's right; I am talking about you Floyd.
